Target InformationThe protein encoded by this gene belongs to the aconitase/IPM isomerase family. It is an enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of citrate to isocitrate via cis-aconitate in the second step of the TCA cycle. This protein is encoded in the nucleus and functions in the mitochondrion. It was found to be one of the mitochondrial matrix proteins that are preferentially degraded by the serine protease 15(PRSS15), also known as Lon protease, after oxidative modification.

| Aconitase 2 Antibody (MA1-029-A647) in IFImmunofluorescent analysis of ACO2 (red) in HeLa cells. The cells were fixed with 4% Paraformaldehyde in PBS for 15 minutes at room temperature, and blocked with 3% BSA in PBS (Product # 37525) for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were stained with a ACO2 Monoclonal Antibody, AlexaFluor 647 conjugate (Product # MA1-029-A647) at a dilution of 1.25 µg/mL in blocking buffer for 1 hour at room temperature protected from light. Nuclei (blue) were stained with Hoechst Dye (Product # 62249) at a dilution of 1:10,000 in blocking buffer. Images were taken on a Thermo Scientific ToxInsight Instrument at 20X magnification. |
