Human coronaviruses are the major cause of upper respiratory tract illness, such as the common cold, in humans. Coronaviruses are positive-stranded RNA viruses, featuring the largest viral RNA genomes known to date (27-31 kb). The first step in coronavirus infection is binding of the viral spike protein, a 139-kDa protein, to certain receptors on host cells. The spike protein is the main surface antigen of the coronavirus. The glycosilated spike protein (as well as the nucleocapsid protein) can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants with antisera from SARS patients.

SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein (S-ECD/RBD) Antibody (MA5-35949) in WBWestern Blot analysis of SARS Coronavirus Spike Protein was performed by loading (Lane 1) 1 µg of SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid, His Tag Recombinant Protein (Product # RP-87669), (Lane 2) 1 µg of SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein (S-RBD) (aa319-541), His Tag Recombinant Protein (Product # RP-87670), (Lane 3) 1 µg of SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein (S-ECD) (aa16-1213), His-Flag Tag Recombinant Protein (Product # RP-87671). The primary antibody used was SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein (S-ECD/RBD) Monoclonal Antibody (Product # MA5-35949) at a dilution of 1:500. A Goat anti-Human IgG + HRP antibody was used to detect the primary antibody at a dilution of 1:5,000.
