Product Specific InformationThis antibody reacts with native Cytochrome C, but does not recognize denatured cytochrome C. The antibody recognizes a region in the vicinity of amino acid 62 of rat Cytochrome C.Target InformationCytochrome C is an electron transporting protein that resides within the intermembrane space of the mitochondria, where it plays a critical role in oxidative phosphorylation and the production of cellular ATP. Release of cytochrome C from the mitochondria to the cytosol is triggered by apoptotic stimuli. In the cytoplasm, the cytochrome C binds apoptotic protease activating factor which activates the apoptotic initiator procaspase 9. Cytosolic cytochrome C functions in the activation of caspase 3, an ICE family molecule that is a key effector of apoptosis.

Cytochrome C Antibody (MA3-38200-A647) in IFImmunofluorescent analysis of Cytochrome C (red) in HeLa cells. The cells were fixed with 4% Paraformaldehyde in PBS for 15 minutes at room temperature, and blocked with 3% BSA in PBS (Product # 37525) for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were stained with a Cytochrome C monoclonal Antibody, AlexaFluor 647 conjugate (Product # MA3-38200-A647) at a dilution of 2.5 µg/mL in blocking buffer for 1 hour at room temperature protected from light. Nuclei (blue) were stained with Hoechst Dye (Product # 62249) at a dilution of 1:10,000 in blocking buffer. Images were taken on a Thermo Scientific ToxInsight Instrument at 20X magnification. |
