| Nitroindoles have been studied for their utility as universal bases capable of behaving indiscriminately towards each of the four natural bases in duplex melting experiments (1). 5-Nitroindole has been shown to be the most effective universal base, providing the least destabilization, within the series: 5-nitroindole, 4-nitroindole, 6-nitroindole, 3-nitroindole. Universal bases find a plethora of applications in the oligonucleotide world, including applications in sequencing and PCR primer and probe design. |
